Foram anunciados hoje segunda-feira, 12 de dezembro, os indicados do próximo 80º Globo de Ouro, que está programado para retornar à NBC em janeiro. A rede, que transmite o Globo desde 1996, se recusou a transmitir a 79ª edição da premiação no início deste ano, após um boicote da indústria do entretenimento desencadeado pelas denúncias do Los Angeles Times em 2021, que revelaram a organização do Globo de Ouro, The Hollywood Foreign Press. A associação não continha membros negros e se envolveu em conduta antiética e práticas financeiras suspeitas.
Mayan Lopez e Selenis Leyva, da NBC Lopez vs. Lopez, revelaram os indicados nas categorias de cinema e TV ao vivo no Beverly Hilton, com categorias selecionadas exibidas durante um segmento do programa Today da NBC. O pai de Lopez, George Lopez, estava originalmente programado para se apresentar ao lado de sua filha, mas teve que desistir depois que ele contraiu o COVID-19, então seu colega Lopez vs. Lopez estrela Leyva interveio.
Os Banshees of Inisherin lideram a lista de indicações para o Globo de Ouro de 2023, o filme recebeu oito indicações, incluindo melhor filme (musical/comédia) e indicações de roteiro e direção para Martin McDonagh. Everything Everywhere All at Once seguiu com seis indicações, enquanto Babylon e The Fabelmans ganharam cinco cada. No geral, a Searchlight Pictures lidera as distribuidoras de filmes com 12 indicações, seguida pela A24 com 10 e a Netflix com nove.
Do lado da TV, Abbott Elementary lidera os indicados com cinco, incluindo melhor série de TV (musical/comédia) e melhor atriz em série de TV (musical/comédia) para Quinta Brunson. HBO Max e Netflix empataram na maioria das indicações na televisão, com 14 cada, seguidos pelo Hulu com nove.
